Rebuilding the Alberta Advantage

For the past 22 years I have called Red Deer my home. It is the home of my children and grandchildren. Together with many partners in our community we have worked hard to make Red Deer an incredible place to call home. However, I believe we have seen many of the wonderful things that make our city and province the pride and joy of our nation begin to slip away. Our current government, both provincially and federally are content to let our economic leadership be taken away. It is time to rebuild the Alberta Advantage, and I don’t know of any better place to start than at it’s centre.

I have known Adèle Poratto for over 20 years. She is an outstanding member of our community. I have seen her work incredibly hard for our community in many ways and serve our community through many different organizations. Adèle has impeccable integrity and work ethic. She is an incredible communicator and most importantly she stands for the values of Albertan families. I highly recommend her as she would make a great MLA for Red Deer South as a UCP Candidate.

Rebuilding the Alberta Advantage

Advocacy

I am passionate about giving a voice to women and minorities in our community and in our world. I have travelled around the globe to stand up for the equal rights of woman. I have stood on the steps of the legislature to advocate for equal access to services for French-speaking Albertans. I have rallied boards of education to make positive changes in the classrooms of hundreds of children through our city.

Energy

Our province’s natural resources are this countries greatest export and put food on the table for thousands of Red Deer’s families. The current government, both provincially and federally, have failed to secure an open and diverse market for our energy products. I believe that we must work together with all Albertans to develop our natural resources so that they are ready for a global market. We must stop relying solely on Ottawa and other provinces. As Albertans we must find new and sustainable markets for our products. We must, as Albertans, develop and maintain safe and reliable pathways for our products to get to those markets.

Deficit

The current government has plunged Red Deerians into a debt cycle that our grandchildren and great grand children will be paying for. In 2015, when the NDP took office, our provincial deficit was $11 Billion. Projections from the current budget estimate that our provincial deficit will reach $56 Billion by 2023/2024. That’s an increase of 500% in fewer than ten years. Instead of improving the lives of Albertans, we will be paying billions of dollars in interest payments caused entirely by the NDP’s lack of fiscal responsibility.

Education

Beginning with my own children’s classroom experience, I have actively advocated for parent’s rights in our children’s education for the past two decades. The NDP have put through legislation such as Bill C24 without appropriate levels of transparency and debate. We must find a way of protecting vulnerable students while at the same time upholding a parents right to be the primary educators of their children.
